Week 13

We learned what our Final project is to be for this class. A powerpoint that combines most of everything that we have learned. It is a bit harder to me than the UEN to get videos, links and everything I want into it. I'm glad that we get a full lab day to work on it. I'm sure I will need some help. Been a fun class!

Week 12

I didn't blog about last week because it was only a lab day. This week was a fun and simple research assignment I did about online testing. Personally I agree with it, although there are con's that I pointed out. I liked researching the topic because it opened my eyes a little more on the topic and others views. I think sooner or later colleges and schools while find an effecient way to take online tests as there are already many online courses available.

Week 11

This week was fun and I'm learning how to design in Publisher which I haven't done yet. I finished my brocuer coming up with "Greg Richards'' as my guest speaker. I made a flyer for my work a few months ago just using Microsoft Excel, I wish I had then known how to do the simple flyer with Publisher and I would have saved alot of time. Next week onto the flyer!

Week 10

The internet has changed so much just since I was in the classroom that I know and understand safety protocols and procedures are a must. Even in 8th grade I saw guys that bypassed the firewalls for innappropriate pictures and games.
I also love GoogleDocs, I have used it with other students to make study reviews. Instead of having to type all your notes up and study, you divide them 5-15 different ways and you only have to type up a little bit and get more study time. This next project seems a little more difficult for me because I haven't used publisher and only Google Docs a few times.

Week 8

I consider myself lucky because I already have done so many things with both Picasa and Power Point. Because of this I was able to cruise through todays assignment and not feel stressed out about wondering what to do etc. I also feel much more comfortable with UEN and didn't have a problem using Mydocuments and My Bookmarks to let the public view my online web album and the power point. I'm enjoying what we're doing!

Week 7

"When I was your age, we didn't have digital cameras..." Is a quote I can hear my dad or grandpa saying. Well, now the chance has come that each individual child could and should have a digital camera to explore their world with. I enjoyed todays assignment because it made me think outside the box with cameras. The links opened up new ideas to use them and the fact that it is possible to extend a camera to every child in a classroom. My wife wants to go into Photography so I am going to be enjoying the following 3 weeks of class as I learn more about it myself.

Week 6

Kidspiration! I never had heard of it but after today I basically own it. It's a great program to develop simple ideas that me or my students have. Each week in class I learn of more resources that will help me be a more rounded and better teacher. The layout and working of Kidspiration is simple and fun to work with. The end product it creates appeals to children and will keep them involved. Glad I came and played around with it this week.

Week 5

Learning about the My Documents & Bookmarks manager was great this week! I think that way of linking things (.mp3's, files etc.) looks much better than doing it in a message box. It was a little confusing at first but got a hold of it quick. Each week I amaze myself by the outcome of a new webpage. I am going to somewhat miss myuen after this because I have never made webpages (simple one) before.

Week 4

This week I learned about a world of sources I had not yet known about... the online Pioneer library. It is a database full of interative games, learning, developmentally appropriate educational movies etc. I loved eMedia as it had all the originals I grew up with including: Magic School Bus and Bill Nye the Science Guy. I am grateful there are people out there willing to spend the time to put these websites together for educators like me. I will use this website to find hundreds of other useful websites in the future. My other two favorites I wrote about were World Book and Thinkfinity.

Week 3

This week I found out about so many great new websites that I can use for my practicum at Preschool. The UEN has so many lesson plans that are applicable to what I am doing, it was like a hidden treasure chest I finally found. I am getting much more comfortable with the myUEN web page design lay out, being able to quickly add pictures and links.

Week 2

The main thing I learned in class this week is that I'm already a week behind on my blogging! I thought I was only supposed to have made one by now... However, I'm excited for this class as it embraces the greatest uses of technology. This week I learned how to create a page All About Me using UEN's profile page creator. I'm quite impressed by what it can do, the easiness of creating links or inserting pictures. I look forward to our projects each week and how it is a hands on / engaging class.
